What's the Hype Over Weighted Blankets?

Do you ever stop and think about the quality of the sleep you're getting? Sure, you've invested in a great mattress, soft sheets, maybe a diffuser, but adding a weighted blanket will take your sleep sesh to the next level.

We're all about getting restorative, restful sleep. With every sweat session at CYL, you'll start to notice your sleep pattern and quality of sleep will improve over time. Additionally, when you add a weighted blanket to the mix, you'll really sleep like a baby - and one that doesn't wake up during the night.

Weighted blankets come in all sizes and price points so you can cuddle up on the sofa with a throw sized blanket or size up to fit your king sized bed. They provide gentle pressure that feels like a warm, gentle hug. This is called Deep Touch Pressure, which humans subconsciously respond positively to with proven health benefits that will change your life. This light pressure from the blanket weight will increase your serotonin levels. Serotonin will make you feel instantly calmer, relaxed, happier, and helps regulate your sleeping patterns.

Using a weighted blanket will also allow your body to release oxytocin. This hormone is typically dubbed as the "love hormone" because your brain releases it when people bond socially or when you snuggle with someone. Oxytocin can actually decrease stress levels or pain and will play a key role in boosting your immune system, all contributing to a better night's rest.

It sometimes feels like laying down for bed is also the perfect time to think about our to-do list, or replay events from the day, which stalls us from falling fast asleep. Using a weighted blanket could potentially decrease activity in our nervous system, which also decreases anxiety. The light pressure from the blanket makes you feel secure, safe, and lets your mind and body rest.

Do you seem to have trouble finding the comfy side of the bed, constantly tossing around at night? Maybe you wake up to the smallest noise or your partner (or animal) moving next to you. Blankets with added weight will help diminish you feeling movement from your partner and will allow you an improved, restful night without the need to toss around as much.

If you're unsure of how heavy your blanket should be, purchase a blanket that is 5 - 10 percent of your body weight for the best result. Everyone can change their life by changing their quality of sleep. The more mindful you are to remove distractions at night and in the bedroom, the more restorative and restful your sleep will become.
